Inspiration

Black & white by David Salas

----------------------

Today we want to introduce you to our collaborator, photographer David Salas and also part of our team.

His continuous travels in which he documented each and every step he took and all the new places he visited together with his ongoing experience of living and meeting diverse cultures made him release unforgettable images. After living in London for eleven years, and even though he is now based in NYC, he is currently on a trip through Asia to get to know better countries like Vietnam & India.

David has done press & corporate photography as well as a long etcetera, but where he most focused is on documentary photo, where he could express social causes, a crucial topic throughout our society.

In this first post where we officially present his work, we want to focus solely on images that transmit our love for black and white.

His work is subtle, simple, elegant, versatile and always stylish. We declare our weakness for these strokes that we appreciate so much.

At Carmen Salas we also want to reflect all those values into our shoes, that's why we want to invite you to check out his web and learn more about him!!

Tune of the day

The story behind / La historia detrás

We are going to try tell you the story of the woman behind.

This is how, when & where it all started.

Carmen Salas was born in Málaga, Spain. Her parents together with two little girls moved to Alicante for work in the 50's, which was quite a small city back then, almost like a village. In 1968 Carmen got her first job related with fashion, which opened the window to the shoe industry, working as a personal assistant to a director of a group of factories.

After that, in 1970, she was contacted by Mr.Copeland, a very successful USA importer back then to work as a fashion coordinator in his offices at the Empire State building. She moved to NYC at age 21, being this a huge intake for such a young girl and the start of it all. She also met who was going to be her future husband, Nelson.

In 1972, she worked for a big group of Spanish shoe companies, which decided to open a Sales office in that same location, during this period she had to travel to places like London, Milan & Paris to gather information about styling and upcoming trends. After that, she would present all of that new information to the manufacturers to prepare the next season's collections.

Later on, in 1974 and back in Spain, she started her career as a sales agent, together with the help of her husband. They attended international fairs and helped with different collections for several different brands, this asset went on up to 1985. During this stage Carmen & Nelson decided to form a family.

In 1986, she commenced her very own brand under her name and applied what she had learnt during all these years. She also showed her collection in North American & European fairs.

They then moved back to the U.S.A with their 4 children in 1989 due to a recession that had hit the shoe industry badly in Spain and stayed there for five years. In 1996, and after the storm had gone by, they all went back where she kept on working for several very well known brands as a sales agent specifically for the USA.

In 2013 Carmen Salas brand was re-born as a family company, where both of them, together with their son, daughter & niece are working on a daily basis.

Carmen still does a lot of design work, hand in hand with her son Carlos.

Our main aim now is to extend that vision, and create trendy and high quality shoes. We design our own collections and our production is made entirely in Spain, in the province of Alicante.

Carmen Salas shoes are always made with love for the contemporanean women that identify themselves with her life & story. For the brave, the tireless and the fighters out there.

 ----------------------------

Keeping it simple

Hey!, for this Spring-Summer 2017 collection we tried to keep it as simple as possible. We have always believed in the saying; "Less equals more!" so this time we used color in a way so that it would be as effective & versatile as possible and make a full effect in your closet, the color scheme we used is basically the essence of most of our apparel items so that it would be easier for you to combine them. From sandy beige tones or completely neutral ones, like the nude option, where you get a lighter and more pure & ethereal look, to the all black option as a basic essential which you can always pair with almost anything. We are learning to add this philosophy into our shoes.

We are inspired by simplicity in its whole and we truly think that it should be imposed over extravagance, as it is something that never expires. We are completely in love with people who are aware that "it's not what you're wearing, it's how you wear it" A masculine shirt with a pair of jeans, the easiness of a stripped dress, a monocolor outfit with just a pop of color on your handbag. Greatness exists in small details.

Join us in this journey of black & white and earthy colors.
